- In June 1829, Hyrum, along with seven other men, was shown and handled the golden plates near the Smith farm in Palmyra Township.[1]
- Hyrum, Jared Carter, and Reynolds Cahoon were appointed to acquire donations for the building of the Kirtland Temple and eventually were called "the building committee".[2][3][4]
- Hyrum was a member of the Camp of Israel (later known as Zion's Camp).[5][6] He also recruited a small group of volunteers who resided in Michigan Territory. [7]
- Hyrum was among the group of men who were incarcerated in Liberty Jail.[8]
- Hyrum Smith is President M. Russell Ballard (Acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve)'s great-great-grandfather.[9]
